Spa Asia. Defining Balance

Relax and Renew at Thailand's first Wellness sanctuary and holistic Spa Kamalaya, Thailand's first wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa

Kamalaya, Thailand's first wellness Sanctuary and Holistic Spa, on the tropical island of Koh Samui, invites you to "Relax and Renew" in their nurturing and unique wellness retreat. Whether you are a single traveller or travelling with a companion - the rates are great, the welcome is warm and you will feel relaxed, revitalized and inspired.

Centred on a cave temple that once served Buddhist monks as a place of meditative retreat, Kamalaya was designed as the ultimate wellness sanctuary. Karina Stewart, founding partner and doctor of Traditional Chinese Medicine says, "Kamalaya was conceived as a place where diverse dimensions of wellness, healing, culture and spirituality from different traditions are brought together."

The common thread underlying ancient healing traditions is the fundamental understanding that body, mind, and spirit are interconnected, Wellness stems from this unity, and if there is an imbalance for too long in any one area, it will affect the others. As holistic therapies from diverse cultures become more mainstream, individuals are beginning to gain greater awareness of the importance of creating balance within their lives.

In modern society finding balance is often the greatest challenge. Too often work takes precedence, leaving little time to devote to nutrition and care for the body and soul.

Paradoxically, time spent cultivating inner peace generates the wisdom energy and time needed to combat the challenges of fast- paced living. With this in mind, Kamalaya has designed Life Enhancement Programmes which focus on specific health concerns and bring together the jewels from both Eastern and Western healing practices.

Relax and Renew is just one of five of these programmes. Others include Ideal Weight Detox and Cellular Rejuvenation Optimal Fitness and Joyful Being. "We want to provide a place where people can discover new possibilities in their life" says Karina. "The focus is to nurture, inspire and help people to achieve and maintain harmony within themselves."

All Life Enhancement Programmes include an initial and pre-departure Wellness Consultation with follow-up support and customized therapies, holistic fitness practices such as Yoga or Tai Chi and nutrition with individualized meal plans. The steam cavern, swimming and plunge pools, Shakti Fitness Centre and regularly scheduled talks, presentations and films on various health and culturally related topics are offered to all guests.

Depending on the programme selected, other therapies and treatments will be delivered from an extensive selection, ranging from consultations and treatments in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Naturopathy, Nutrition, Homeopathy, Western Medicine and many more.

A typical day may begin with the Kamalaya Awakening, a gentle breath and sound meditative experience. This is followed either by one of Kamalaya's Holistic Fitness classes in the magical Yoga Pavilion nestled amongst boulders and trees with breathtaking views of the sea and outlying islands. Breakfast comes with a selection of healthy options including freshly prepared vegetable and fruit juices. Wellness treatments, group classes and individual classes are ongoing throughout the day. Evenings include optional activities such as presentations, films, or music. Lunch and dinner feature inspired cuisine that focuses on fresh and healthy ingredients from Kamalaya's own herb garden - tantalizing salads and raw appetizers, soups and a selection of vegetarian, seafood and meat dishes.
