Kamalaya's inspired and qualified yoga instructors offer specialized teaching in Ashtanga Vinyasa, Kundalini, and Hatha yoga.
Kamalaya is proud to announce that our newest yoga instructor Lisa Esposito is now accepting private bookings to address individual needs. She will also continue to teach three yoga and pranayama classes a week for Kamalaya guests and outside visitors.
Lisa, a Registered Yoga Teacher with the Yoga Alliance, has been practicing yoga for 9 years and was certified in the Bikram Hatha yoga method in 2003. Since then she has studied with a range of renowned teachers including The Power Yoga Institute’s Baron Baptiste, Forrest Yoga’s Ana Forrest, and Anusara visionary Amy Ippoliti, as well as leading instructors Jason Bloom and Christine Nonez.
In November 2008, Lisa completed Stephen Thomas’s training in Hatha and pranayama techniques on Koh Samui. Before coming to Kamalaya she was a guest teacher at Bikram Studio in Phuket.
Lisa says her enjoyment of yoga is only surpassed by the pleasure she gets from teaching it.
"There are infinite therapeutic benefits to yoga. Everyone is capable, regardless of fitness level or flexibility – that’s the beauty of yoga,” she says.
“I love to pass on the information I’ve learned from my teachers and through my own practice to guide each individual to find the most beneficial and rewarding style and/or postures for them. It’s so rewarding to see the look of contentment on a person’s face as they soften into the moment to breathe and relax, to stretch, transform, and feel good!”
During individual sessions, Lisa focuses on listening to and observing her students, helping them to find their own personal balance – balance between physical and mental challenge and where the two meet; and balance between effort and surrender in their practice.
“I believe to find your peace in your effort is a great way to practice,” she says. “Beyond the stretching, the relaxing, the sweating and challenge, there are so many intrinsic medical benefits to the body, mind and spirit that are a natural effect of practicing yoga. Yoga aids in detoxification of the body, reduces stress, improves concentration, and is both healing and preventative in its nature. And the bottom line.....it will make you feel fantastic!”
Lisa is also an accomplished chef who has opened restaurants as the originating chef in both Seattle and Key West. It was while opening the first restaurant in Key West that she became interested in yoga, knowing she needed something to protect her against the effects of long hours, high stress and little sleep.
“There are a lot of similarities between yoga and cooking - It’s about pacing yourself, breathing and movement combined,” she says. “Both are beautiful combinations of mental and physical activity, and as challenging as it ever is, it’s also always pure, unabashed fun.”
