Recreation / Fitness Manager

Kamalaya is an award-winning Wellness Sanctuary & Holistic Spa set amid a lush tropical landscape on the southern coast of Koh Samui, Thailand. Kamalaya combines healing practices and treatments from East and West, a beautiful natural environment, inspired healthy cuisine, and customized wellness programs and retreats into a unique holistic lifestyle concept for enhanced wellbeing. The resort features 75 guest accommodations, two restaurants, a tea lounge, and extensive wellness and spa facilities, including yoga pavilions, lap pools, saunas, steam room and state-of-the-art fitness areas.

Recognized internationally as a wellness industry leader, Kamalaya employs a highly skilled team of  fitness instructors offering both individual and group classes in a wide range of holistic wellness activities.  Our new Shakti Fitness Center features personal instruction in strength training, functional resistance training, Fit Ball, Pilates and other exercise modalities, as well as weight training and cardio vascular workouts.  There is also Yoga for beginner to advanced level.

We are now seeking an experienced Recreation / Fitness Manager to drive and develop operations in this key area, overseeing not only the current offering but also with the ability and vision to create and support new guest fitness and recreational activities.

The ideal candidate has a passion for sports, leisure and wellness activities and is interested, both on a personal and professional level, in keeping pace with current trends in the areas of fitness, yoga etc.  She / He will not only be an experienced fitness and yoga teacher with an understanding of anatomy and physiology, but will also show the qualities of a caring and supportive leader who is able to develop new, unique and interesting fitness and recreational activities that draw upon the best cultural, sport and wellness offerings.

The required qualifications include a minimum of five years management and teaching experience in the wellness / health spa industry with at least 2 years working in a 5 star resort / hotel environment. We are looking for someone with an up-to-date knowledge of physical fitness therapies confirmed by a Degree or Certificate in Sport Science.  

Responsibilities:
·    Oversee day-to-day operations of the resort’s Fitness Center to ensure all fitness services, protocols and
     procedures are followed.
·    Plan and conduct exercise sessions, personal training sessions, group training classes, Pilates, Fit Ball, Yoga, etc
     with the support of the resort fitness team
·    Provide leadership while educating, monitoring and encouraging class participants
·    Supervise and develop existing fitness training staff on a regular, on-going basis                             
·    Maintain thorough knowledge of all strength and cardio equipment and their programs as well as the proper use,
     alignment and safe use of such equipment
·    Assist in the recruitment, development and training of all fitness and yoga staff
·    Ensure the smooth operation of all equipment through periodic service checks and reporting maintenance orders
     promptly
·    Consistently offer professional, friendly and engaging customer service
·    Develop new fitness and recreation programs

Qualifications:
·    At least 5 years experience managing the Fitness / Recreation department of a luxury spa / health club
     preferably in a resort setting.
·    Ability to perform personal training as well as instruct safe, effective and motivating group fitness classes for
     participants of all levels.
·    Knowledge of principles of exercise physiology
·    Thorough knowledge of functionality of relevant fitness equipment
·    Knowledge of current industry trends and standards in exercise protocols, fitness programming, and equipment
     standards
·    Ability to work with customers at all fitness skill levels
·    Ability to analyze customer needs and deliver appropriate assistance
·    Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) with active certification from AFAA, ACSM, ACE or the
     NASM or equivalent
·    Yoga Instructor (RYT) with  200 - 500 hour  Yoga Alliance Certification or equivalent
·    Pilates Mat & Reformer certification

Executive Housekeeping Manager

Responsibilities
·    To maintain regular and effective communication with all other Heads of Department
·    To supervise the daily activities of all Housekeeping staff to ensure compliance with housekeeping procedures and service standards.
·    Prepare management reports and regular statistical reports as required by the operation or by General Manager
·    To ensure that all occupied rooms are cleaned and prepared for guests on a twice daily basis
·    To implement and maintain a daily inspection program to ensure guest rooms, back of house areas, wellness sanctuary and public areas are clean and supplied with necessary items and services.
·    Liaise with Front Office and Engineering managers to recommend and coordinate all improvements to guest rooms and public areas.
·    To maintain current knowledge of occupancies to ensure that adequate staff are available and roster for duty.
·    Coordinate with the Laundry department that efficient operation of the laundry and laundry services.
·    Manage the uniform room ensuring all staff uniforms are clean, well maintained, press and issued according to company policy.
·    To ensure departmental employees perform their duties in accordance with company policy
·    To regularly report operational matters to the General Manager.
·    To ensure that correct procedures are observed in the formulation of contracts and  sub contracts.
·    To ensure that all company cost of sales, wage percentages and regular budget figures are maintained according to budget.
·    To maintain regular and effective communication with other Heads of Department.
·    To assign responsibilities to subordinates and to check their performance periodically.

Qualifications:
·    Degree or Certificate in any field
·    Good command of spoken & written in English
·    Minimum five years experience in Housekeeping Management in a five star hotel or similar standard property

NATUROPATH/HOLISTIC WELLNESS CONSULTANT

A thorough knowledge of naturopathic systems and modalities with a minimum of three years clinical experience.  A deeper knowledge of cellular detoxification, weight control and stress management is preferred

The ability to work as part of a large team and to show cross cultural sensitivity in dealings with colleagues and guests is very important

A self-motivated team player with a personable disposition and excellent people skills, including the ability to relate to people in a friendly, understanding, and professional manner

The ability to speak a foreign language is preferred

Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioner

We are looking for motivated, capable, positive Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioner who is willing to make a pro-active contribution to the team’s growth, guests’ well-being and overall team spirit and culture.

The perfect candidate will not only have an understanding and level of practice of Chinese medicine but will also show the qualities of a committed team member with a strong service mind. The cultural environment is mainly Thai with several expat staff so cross cultural sensitivity is very important. Responsibilities will include liaison and management of domestic travel partner network including at least bi-annual trips to Bangkok to meet key DMC partners with potential to develop other Asian markets; carrying out site inspections for domestic and global travel partners visiting Kamalaya; responding to sales enquiries as required and implementation and coordination of contracting; and assisting the Sales & Marketing Manager and Reservations Teams in the production of sales reporting and revenue management processes.

As a key role in the team, this person will also provide support to other team members, including the PR Manager (collation and circulation of monthly press clipping reports), and the Customer Relationship Manager (coordination of guest events in key markets), as well as managing stocks of sales and marketing collaterals and performing general administrative support to the department.  Sales & Marketing and business development projects and initiatives will provide further challenging opportunities on an ongoing basis.

The successful candidate will have at least one year’s experience in the hospitality industry or other guest relations roles (such as sales, retail, PR or marketing), and should be looking to build a career in Sales & Marketing. He/she must be fluent in written and spoken English.
