Ayurveda, the 'Science of Life', is a holistic system of natural medicine that is first described around 3,500 BC in the Vedic texts of ancient India. It promotes living a life that is balanced and in harmony with all aspects of life, physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual. Kamalaya offers many types of Ayurvedic treatments for you to experience.
Royal Ayurvedic Traditional Massage
Warm oil is generously poured over your whole body, followed by a combination of rubbing, tapping, pinching and kneading techniques to increase circulation, leaving the body feeling rejuvenated and tension free.
Marma Point Massage
Working on 107 energy points throughout your body to release toxins and relieve tension, a Marma Point Massage will leave you in a state of complete harmony and bliss.
Shirodhara therapy works through to the deepest levels of one's being. 'Shiro' translates from Sanskrit as head, and 'dhara,' as flow. A stream of warm, medicated oil is poured continuously on the forehead, which helps to connect and energize the various channels (nada's) that sustain our life, from the circulation of fluids on the physical level to the subtle currents running through the meridians, chakras and auras. Using technical skill and intuition, this specialized treatment helps to improve blood supply, thereby increasing the flow of nutrients and oxygen, relieving tension, and promoting a clear pathway for nerve impulses to balance the nervous system and restore vitality. Shirodhara is recommended for sinus congestion, insomnia, and for clarity of mind.
Kati refers to the lower back in Sanskrit. This treatment focuses specifically on treating discomfort relating to the back, such as chronic tension, a prolapsed disk or sciatica. Kati also benefits hypertension and cardiac related conditions. A medicinal paste is applied in a ring around the afflicted area, acting to hold warm Ayurvedic oil poured in its centre. The oil is kept within the ring for 30 minutes. This application is followed by back massage and steam with hot towels.
Pathaganjaly (massage using the feet)
This full body massage is performed with the guest reclined on the floor. Heated oil is applied and massaged into the muscles with the therapist's hands and feet. 'Patha' is Sanskrit for feet, and refers the therapist's use of their feet to massage, carefully and skilfully walking on the body. This relaxing treatment promotes the release of tension, improves muscle flexibility, alleviates back pain and enhances circulation. Pathagajaliy allows for a strong application of pressure, especially recommended for those with well-developed or tight muscles.
Lymphatic Drainage Therapy
This full body treatment helps the return of the lymphatic fluid to the circulatory system, removing waste and dead cells. It is an excellent treatment to complement a detox program and boost immunity, as well as to reduce any fluid retention and cellulite. A gentle specialised technique is used in this massage, as lymph is situated just beneath the skin. It is a natural way to re-harmonize the physical, mental, and energy levels of the body thus providing a sense of well being. For maximum benefits 2 or more treatments are recommended.
Reiki, a Japanese word meaning 'Universal Life Energy', is a therapy whereby the Reiki healer is a channel or conduit for this energy. Reiki is an extremely effective technique for stress release and total relaxation. A sense of peace, vitality, and joy combined with the extremely pleasant feeling of security are common experiences. Reiki accelerates the body's natural healing power and opens the mind, body and spirit to balance on an emotional and mental level. It is a nurturing energy that harmonizes the mind, body and soul.
