Hatha Yoga with International Asana Champion Esak Garcia

Hatha Yoga is an integral part of an ancient and comprehensive system of spiritual development. The piece that Hatha yoga deals with is maintaining the physical body in a state full of life force, energy, circulation and oxygen. As we go about our lives, most of what we do requires the physical body as a vehicle that we move around in and communicate with. When the body breaks down or when we are in pain, it becomes nearly impossible to do the work we are meant to accomplish, whether spiritual or worldly in nature. Hatha yoga is designed to keep the physical body well serviced so that it can be useful. The results of practicing Hatha yoga can include robust physical health and long life.

Esak Garcia has been practicing Bikram Choudhury’s method of Hatha yoga, which is also commonly referred to as Hot Yoga, for nearly 20 years. He has been teaching since 2001 and has led seminars, workshops and trainings internationally. In 2005 Esak won an international asana championship, the Bishnu Charan Ghosh Cup. From representatives of 25 countries, Esak was chosen for his ability to most accurately demonstrate the combination of strength, flexibility, balance, poise and grace that are cultivated in Hatha yoga.

Esak brings lightness, charisma, and heartfelt passion to his classes and workshops. He is skilled at working with all levels of practitioners, from beginners to international champions. He specializes in encouraging each individual to bring forth their greatest ability on any given day. Spending time with Esak is a highly motivating experience that can inspire renewed commitment to maintaining your body, active and full of life force once again.

Daily Asana Practice
This class helps you to explore your personal full range of motion, focusing on moving the spine and using all the muscles of the body. It will not only stretch your muscles, it will also strengthen them. This class is accessible to any level of fitness, flexibility and strength. It’s also a cardiovascular workout that brings up your heart rate and makes you sweat. It also provides plenty of savasana time, allowing the body to relax into a completely passive state. This class is designed as a daily practice for physical maintenance.

Hatha Workshops
Each of the two workshops in this series focuses on a specific concept of Hatha Yoga. One session addresses the concept of using your core strength to balance, while another explores backward bending. A third is an in-depth examination of the idea of shifting between active and passive states, or asana and savasana - the concept that gives Hatha yoga its name. The workshops are interactive and provide plenty of space for questions and answers. Practitioners discuss a concept, see it illustrated, and then try it themselves before moving onto the next concept. These workshops are an opportunity to interact on a personal level with Esak and, with his guidance, dissect your practice to facilitate a greater understanding of Hatha yoga’s complexity and brilliance.

Private Sessions
Private sessions are an opportunity for you to get assistance on an aspect of your practice of your choosing, or to move through a yoga class with individual instruction and attention.
