In April 2009, we welcomed Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) specialist Andre Tse to the Kamalaya Wellness team. A native of North Carolina, Andre comes from a family of health care practitioners with a long tradition of integrating Eastern and Western philosophies of medicine.
Andre is a sensitive and talented practitioner, accomplished in a repertoire of treatments that includes five varieties of acupuncture; Chinese Tui Na and Japanese Sotai massage; Chinese Herbology, Moxabustion, Cupping and Qi Gong.
Upon earning his undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Andre worked in pharmaceutical research for three years. The experience led him to develop a more direct and personal approach to fulfill his passion for healing – one focused on more than a single school of thought.
“I had a shift in my concept of health and wellness - I knew Western Medicine’s linear approach just wasn’t enough on its own,” he says. “So I decided I wanted to educate myself on how to live a holistic lifestyle with the goal of passing on what I learned. My personal philosophy is to live my life in a way that can teach others as well.”
Andre returned to school to earn his Masters in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine in 2006 from the Oregon College of Oriental Medicine. He then deepened his understanding of Chinese Medicine with an internship in Acupuncture & Gynecology at Nan Jing University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, China’s oldest and most highly regarded university for TCM. While there, he studied under renowned World Health Organization-certified doctors at Jian Zhong TCM Hospital, Jiang Su Research Institute of TCM, and Qin Huai TCM Hospital.
Today Andre describes his motivation as a desire to create positive change in peoples’ lives while teaching them to maintain healthy lifestyles based on both Eastern and Western philosophies. This, he says, is why he chooses to devote his skills to the Kamalaya team.
“I like the team approach to the treatments we do and how we can really individualize a guest’s treatment here. The holistic approach brings much better results,” he says. “People get better while they’re here. They leave feeling like they’ve learned something, like they’re taking away something that will be useful to them forever.”
Andre is certified by the US National Certification Commission for Acupuncture & Oriental Medicine as a Diplomat of Oriental Medicine. He also is licensed by the North Carolina Acupuncture Licensing Board. He specializes in treatment of:
