Morrakot Naksin "A State of Mind" Exhibition at The Gallery, Kamalaya Koh Samui

Koh Samui, Thailand... The Gallery at Kamalaya Koh Samui is hosting "A State of Mind" from May 2 to July 1, 2008, a solo exhibition by internationally acclaimed Thai artist Morrakot Naksin...

The work of Morrakot Naksin offers soul and inspiration. His adolescent experience of painting the walls of pagodas and temples in north Thailand gives generously to his exceptionally beautiful art. He paints meticulously with fine detail and his use of light and dark colors provides a wonderful contrast. Golden and yellow hues are like luminescent 'auras' that glow against the dark and shadowy depths of Morrakot's backdrops. This effect gives his paintings mood; they are atmospheric and his use of gold and copper leaf together with oil paint offers extravagance in juxtaposition to the simple lines, shapes and forms of his human subjects.

Some of Morrakot's pieces bear the titles "Three Brothers", "Hopeful", "Protection", "Mother", "Religion" and "Close Friends" to express the role of relationships, community and religion within his culture. In this way, the artist offers a real sensitivity towards humanity and thoughtful insight about the responsive conditions in daily life. Morrakot is a deep thinker and his work is refreshingly original. In his paintings of faceless figures, spirituality becomes a presence beyond what the face will reveal. The spiritual narrative in his work still leaves much to be interpreted by the viewer.

Morrakot Naksin has exhibited internationally since 1996 and has extensive experience living and exhibiting in Europe. He received training in Australia and Belgium as well as his Bachelor's Degree in Fine Art from the Chang Mai University (1993). His work is peaceful, tolerant and deeply profound. The artist believes that any feeling can be transformed into happiness "if one can believe in oneself and have the faith to control the mind and emotion". Indeed, Morrakot believes in the 'state of mind' and his work reflects his own powerful thoughts.
